When the Wachowskis do science fiction, it is usually a reason to take note and we finally have details on their upcoming series ‘Sense8‘ for Netflix! As Netflix has been giving us some of the most amazing binge watching experiences as of late, I’ve been hoping they would head more into science fiction and this sounds like we may just be in for something special!

Up until now, we knew a little about the show, mainly that they are working with ‘Babylon 5’ creator J. Straczynski (‘Thor‘), but now we have some casting information and an overview of what ‘Sense8’ will be about.

Now we don’t know which actors have which roles quite yet but here is who are involved! Naveen Andrews (‘Lost‘, ‘Once Upon a Time in Wonderland‘), Brian J. Smith (‘SGU Stargate Universe’, ‘Defiance‘), Freema Agyeman (‘Doctor Who’, ‘The Carrie Diaries’), Doona Bae (‘Cloud Atlas‘, ‘The Host‘), Daryl Hannah (‘Kill Bill’, ‘Blade Runner‘), Tuppence Middleton (‘Jupiter Ascending’,’Trance’), Aml Ameen (‘Lee Daniels’ The Butler’, ‘Kidulthood’), Max Riemelt (‘The Wave’, ‘Before the Fall’), Alfonso Herrera, Tena Desae (‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’), Miguel Silvestri (‘Medium’, ‘Jurassic Park‘), Terrence Mann (‘Critters’, ‘The Dresden Files’), and Jamie Clayton.

So what is it about? Well according to Straczynski the unofficial synopsis is as follows:

They can not only see and talk to each other as though they were in the same place, they have access to each other’s deepest secrets. Not only must they figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, they must do so while being hunted by an organization out to capture, kill or vivisect them. The series follows eight characters around the world who, in the aftermath of a tragic death, find themselves linked to each other mentally and emotionally.

Aside from the eight individuals who are now linked, there will also be two key players in the series. The first is Jonas, an apparently magical man who reaches out to the eight, and his evil counterpart known only as Mr. Whispers.

The 10-episode series is set to be shot in a variety of locations to reflect the various spots that the individuals are in and include Berlin, Chicago, Mexico City, Mumbai, Nairobi, San Francisco, Seoul, and the UK. Each episode will focus primarily on a single character as we learn more about the world they inhabit.

Straczynski has already mapped out an arc that would last 5 seasons, so we can only hope that we’ll be able to see it play out in its entirety. It is unclear if the cast has signed for the full run, but I hope they have!

While we’re not getting ‘Babylon 5’ back to the small screen the man behind it is working with the minds who gave us ‘The Matrix’ series. I’m curious to see what they put together while collaborating on this project.
