Things are preparing to get a little weird in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the company is eyeing Jon Spaihts (‘Prometheus‘, ‘The Mummy‘) to pen the upcoming ‘Doctor Strange‘ movie. At this point not much of what Spaihts has written has been released, however there is a lot of speculation that many of the science fiction films he has previously scripted are slowly working their way to production including ‘Passengers’ which made the 2007 Black List.

With the film recently having picked up Scott Derrickson (‘Sinister‘,’The Exorcism of Emily Rose’) to direct, it is now moving forward full steam on pre-production! I’m sure at this point it won’t be long until we hear some official casting news.

With the Marvel Universe already going cosmic in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ and having another realm through the ‘Thor’ movies, it shouldn’t be too surprising that we’ll be getting some of the mystical aspects of the Marvel Universe here as well. What is a little unusual is that it sounds as if Strange may become the hub that the third phase of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe is based around instead of Stark being the central point as Robert Downey Jr. is slowly looking to leave the role behind him. I’m hoping we really get someone as charismatic as Downey or the upcoming Chris Pratt from ‘Guardians’ for the role.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Doctor Strange was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and has gone through a few different takes on his power sets over the years. The main breakdown is that he was a world class neurosurgeon with an ego as big as our planet who lost the use of his hands. In trying to regain the use of them he ended up working with magic and eventually became the Sorcerer Supreme who was tasked with guarding the planet against magic and demons. Needless to say that he had to learn humility over the years, to an extent. With his name already being on a Hydra list in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ it is hard to say if we’ll see him already introduced as the Sorcerer Supreme or if they’ll go back a bit in time to tell his origin story.

Are you looking forward to see Spaihts take on ‘Doctor Strange’? Do you think he’s had enough experience to handle such a different take on a Marvel movie? Share your thoughts below true believers!
