The Punisher

Hold on to your hats ‘The Punisher’ fans, this week the show’s official Twitter account posted a brand new GIF from Season 2 of Frank in a bloody brawl, and now, Frank Castle himself, Jon Bernthal, has posted a response to that, which may have all kinds of hidden meanings. Bernthal’s reply simply says “Tick. Tock” but fans are already speculating on whether that means the actor is hinting about the drop of a trailer or the release date for the new series. Check out the post for yourself here:

Besides Bernthal, the rest of the creative forces behind ‘The Punisher’ have also been hyping up the series in preparation for Season 2, starting with reminding fans how Season 1 managed to deliver against expectations despite the fact that the character had not been very well adapted to live-action before the Netflix series. According to Joe Quesada during Comic-Con a few months ago:

“Last year, this time, I was going around telling people like you [Punisher is] the best show we may have done. I think there were three fans on the floor, they were like, ‘Come on, man.’ I’m like, ‘If you don’t think it’s the best show that we’ve done and if [Jon] Bernthal is not Frank Castle, I will pay your Netflix subscription for a year.’ Never collected. Thank God.”

While showrunner Steve Lightfoot spoke on the challenges of adapting a character like Frank Castle, and what we may expect from the titular character in the second season as his quest for vengeance continues to evolve:

“That’s always tricky because you get such a variation, some people love it, some people hate it, some people are in the middle…My personal opinion with that stuff is you just have to be true to the character and the story you choose to tell. You want them to love it obviously, but if you start worrying about the audience, it can be a trap. I think we just have to keep trying to be true to Frank’s character and make him someone people want to hang out with.”

Do you think we’ll see a trailer for Season 2 of ‘The Punisher’ soon? What else could Bernthal’s cryptic message mean? Or is he simply counting down the hours until the season is released? Feel free to share your theories in the comments below!
