While Michael Bay’s ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction‘, the fourth installation of the franchise, isn’t set to hit theaters until June 27th, Paramount Pictures has just confirmed that there will be a sequel to the film. I wonder if Mark Wahlberg (‘Ted’, ‘Planet of the Apes’) knew something that we didn’t when he said to “just expect to be blown away” as it seems that the studio execs already have been.
Recently at CineEurope, Paramount Pictures International SVP Edward Ryan announced many of the upcoming films that the studio plans to release. One of which is the fifth ‘Transformers’ film which is to be the second installment of a new trilogy for the franchise. Other genre films announced were ‘G.I. Joe 3′, ‘Star Trek 3‘, ‘Hansel and Gretel 2’, and ‘Paranormal Activity 5‘.
With a most likely summer release date in mind, the studio will have to be working quickly on a fifth installment of ‘Transformers’. It will also be interesting to see when the film is set to be released as the usual weekend closest to July 4th that the film tends to occupy already has Steven Spielberg’s ‘The BFG’, Sony’s ‘Angry Birds,’ and Fox’s ‘Independence Day 2‘ scheduled. Of course With the first two drawing in families most likely only ‘Independence Day’ would probably draw most genre audiences away from this one. Still, a busy weekend to contend with.
If nothing else this should provide us with more Dinobots and most likely more Wahlberg on the big screen!
