Production on ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ is well under way and we’ve even seen some pictures to prove it. Recently, J.J. Abrams and his team wrapped in Abu Dhabi, but before we completely move on from that location, a new report has emerged indicating that another familiar face from the recent ‘Star Trek’ movies might make the jump to a galaxy far, far away.

Over the past few months, we’ve learned a number of names attached to the first ‘Star Wars’ film under the Disney banner. They range from original cast members like Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher to newcomers to the franchise like John Boyega, Adam Driver, and Daisy Ridley. Most recently, two more great talents were added as Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie were added to the roster. Now, it appears that a former collaborator of Abrams’ is the next name to at least make a cameo appearance in ‘Episode VII’.

According to IGN Middle East, ‘The World’s End’ and ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ star Simon Pegg was spotted on set in Abu Dhabi and is “playing a secret role in the film”. Previously, the British actor dismissed rumors of his involvement in the film and came out in favor of new faces over “stunt casting”, but maybe he had a change of heart when the filmmaker hypothetically approached him with a role. Of course, it could be possible that Pegg was simply visiting the set, but considering that a good portion of the movie is shooting in his home country at Pinewood Studios, it seems unlikely that he’d travel all the way to the United Arab Emirates for a set visit unless there was something else afoot.

Whether if it was a set visit or a “secret role”, we likely won’t find out until ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ hits theaters. So until then, what do you think about the possibility of Simon Pegg being involved in the film? Would you like to see the Cornetto Trilogy star walking around a marketplace on Tatooine or boarding a ship that wasn’t the USS Enterprise? Let us know in the comments below.
