Shortly after Drew Goddard was replaced by Steven S. DeKnight as showrunner, Marvel Studios and Netflix announced that ‘Boardwalk Empire’ alum Charlie Cox would be playing the titular character and his alter ego Matt Murdock in their upcoming series ‘Daredevil’. Now, the first of five shows on the popular streaming service set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has found it’s villain to take on the blind lawyer/vigilante.

According to Marvel.com, ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’ actor Vincent D’Onofrio has joined the cast of the upcoming 13-episode series as Wilson Fisk AKA The Kingpin. Previously played by Michael Clark Duncan in the 2003 adaptation starring Ben Affleck, the antagonist is described as “a powerful businessman whose interests in the future of Hell’s Kitchen will bring him into conflict with the blind attorney Matt Murdock and his alter ego Daredevil”.

Aside from his role on the long-running cop show, D’Onofrio is known for his roles in ‘Full Metal Jacket’, ‘Men In Black’, and ‘Steal This Movie’. He’ll also be appearing in the upcoming ‘Jurassic World’ from Colin Trevorrow starring Chris Pratt, Jake Johnson, and Bryce Dallas Howard. Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb had the following to say about the eclectic actor:

“We’re incredibly proud to have an actor with the gravitas and versatility of Vincent joining ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ in such an integral role. Wilson Fisk is an iconic villain whose cunning and power make him the dangerous equal of our hero.”

From what I’ve seen of his work, I like D’Onofrio. It’ll be interesting to see him make the transformation to become Fisk. It probably goes without saying that he’ll be bald for the role, but I wonder if they’ll have him bulk up a lot or offer a different take on the villain’s imposing stature.
