Back in 2012 before Guillermo Del Toro was busy with kaiju in ‘Pacific Rim’, ghosts in ‘Crimson Peak’, or (possibly) superheroes in ‘Justice League Dark’, he had been working on a television adaptation of his novel series ‘The Strain’. Initially, the show was given a pilot order, but then it was granted a 13-episode season in late 2013. After all that, later this summer we’ll finally get to see the award-winning filmmaker’s take on vampires, but not before FX promotes the hell out it.
Previously, the network has released a series of teaser images and trailers, as well as some stills from the show. But now we have the first actual trailer that gives us hints about the plot of the upcoming horror series. You can check it out below followed by the official synopsis of the story:
‘The Strain’ is a high concept thriller from Academy Award® nominated Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, author Chuck Hogan, and writer/producer Carlton Cuse, which is based on the best-selling vampire novel trilogy of the same title written by del Toro and Hogan. It tells the story of “Dr. Ephraim Goodweather,” the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.
What do you think about the first real trailer for ‘The Strain’? Are you looking forward to what could potentially be the next big horror series on TV? Do you anticipate the show being as popular, if not more so, than ‘The Walking Dead’? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
‘The Strain’ starring Corey Stoll, Mia Maestro, Sean Astin, Kevin Durand, Natalie Brown, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Robert Maillet, Jack Kesy, Ben Hyland, and Miguel Gomez premieres on FX on July 13, 2014.
