We already knew that Will Smith (‘Independence Day‘, ‘Man In Black III‘) was interested in working on the film ‘Brilliance‘ by Legendary Pictures and now the female lead has been cast! The role has gone to Noomi Rapace (‘Prometheus‘, ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’) and I think these two should have a great dynamic on screen. The film is based off of the novel by Marcus Sakey with a screen play adaptation by David Keopp (‘Spider-Man’, ’Jurassic Park’). It will be directed by Julius Onah (‘The Girl In Trouble’).

The plot for the film itself revolves around people who are obtaining super hero abilities. It sounds quite a bit like the ‘mutants’ from the ‘X-Men’ universe (or ‘Miracles’ from the Marvel Cinematic Unvierse) as a minority of people are born with the extraordinary powers. While Smith was already announced to play a brilliant whose power is to track down people and is looking for someone that is intending to start a civil war, Noomi is set to play a tattooed and pierced brilliant that is identified as a terrorist by the government. It is unclear at this time if she is the person behind the attempt to start this civil war or something else entirely.

Novel Synopsis:

In Wyoming, a little girl reads people’s darkest secrets by the way they fold their arms. In New York, a man sensing patterns in the stock market racks up $300 billion. In Chicago, a woman can go invisible by being where no one is looking. They’re called “brilliants,” and since 1980, one percent of people have been born this way. Nick Cooper is among them; a federal agent, Cooper has gifts rendering him exceptional at hunting terrorists. His latest target may be the most dangerous man alive, a brilliant drenched in blood and intent on provoking civil war. But to catch him, Cooper will have to violate everything he believes in—and betray his own kind.
