Nicholas Brendon was, and still is, one of my favorite actors from Joss Whedon’s mega hit series ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer.’ Brendon had the best lines, and delivered them in the most casual and believable way.

He was kind, outgoing, empathetic and quick-witted. He had a genuine style of acting, you could easily see that his personality shines through to his character. I felt much of his scripted lines were most likely ad libbed, and they were so good, so hilarious Whedon probably simply motioned to keep rolling.

Case in point, in Whedon’s ‘The Avengers,’ the line from Robert Downey Jr. where he says “You ever tried shawarma? There’s a shawarma joint about two blocks from here, I don’t know what it is but I wanna try it.”

This line came from Brendon just after his first audition for Xander, which didn’t go particularly well. In a quote from Whedon himself:

“We brought him in, we weren’t sure, we had other people, it wasn’t a slam dunk, it almost never is. Nicky just tore the place apart. And afterwards he was like, ‘Does anybody feel like shawarma? I feel like some shawarma.”

And there you have it, that is Brendon, he just… gets it. He gets the importance of timing in comedy, delivery, content, he nails it. Sadly, I found myself looking for him to resurface after his iconic role on ‘Buffy.’ I was very happy when he joined ‘Criminal Minds’ in 2007 as Kevin Lynch, as a possible love interest for the adorable Kirsten Vangsness (Penelope Garcia).

Brendon’s new sci-fi thriller, ‘Coherence’ has released the first trailer and we have it for you! ‘Coherence’ was written and directed by James Ward Byrkit, and has already won several awards including Best Screenplay at Fantastic Fest and Sitges, Best Picture at Imagine Film Festival and others.

Although Brendon has had other roles, this is his return to sci-fi. After watching the first minute or so of the trailer, it reminded me of Robert Zemeckis’ ‘The Box’ with Cameron Diaz and James Marsden. But I’ll let you draw your own conclusions from the trailer, so sit back, grab some shawarma, and enjoy! And when you get to theaters on June 20th, don’t forget to say hi to Brendon. And he really doesn’t mind requests to do the “Snoopy dance.”

And now, the first trailer from ‘Coherence!’

Coming to theaters on June 20th, 2014, ‘Coherence’ stars Hugo Armstrong, Nicholas Brendon, Emily Foxler, Elizabeth Gracen, Lauren Maher, Alex Manugian, Lorene Scafaria and Maury Sterling.
