The highly palatable Image Comics series ‘Chew‘ is being  turned into a delectable animated feature adaptation of the comic.

Jeff Krelitz, known for the animated ‘Torchwood: Web of Lies’ is directing alongside Peter Panzerfaust, with a script by ‘Chew’ co-creator John Layman.

‘Chew’ is a story about an FDA agent (Tony Chu) who solves crimes by receiving psychic impressions from… yep, you guessed it, eating things… including people. The term is “Cibopath.” (pronounced “see-bo-path”)

When on assignment, trying to find people smuggling chicken (which is illegal thanks to the Bird Flu), he enters a black market chicken restaurant on invitation from the U.S. FDA. He has a bowl of chicken soup only to find he gets a psychic impression of the cook killing people and putting them into the soup.

Chu eats the cook to find out the names of the rest of the victims. He is fired from his job with the Philadelphia PD and gets hired on to the FDA by an agent named Mason Savoy, who is also a cibopath.
Yeun is voicing the detective, Tony Chu. and Day is voicing his love interest, food critic Amelia Mintz who is a “saboscrivner,” a person who can write about food so eloquently the reader actually feels like they are tasting it.
Yeun is apparently an avid reader and fan of the series, so bringing him aboard was what producers deemed a “no-brainer.”

Felicia Day picked up the book in 2010, she once tweeted that the series was  “sublime” and “original.” This should be a blast, I’ve been meaning to pick up the series for some time now, you know, with all that “free time” I have lying about.

The producers are looking at a  digital broadcast and home entertainment release.

So tell us kids, what are your thoughts?
