There are two characters we don’t know much about yet for ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron‘ and that is the mysterious character that Kim Soo Hyun will be playing and the role of Vision played by Paul Bettany (‘The Avengers’, ‘Transcendence‘). That will change a little bit as Bettany recently sat down and talked a little about the character that he’ll be playing. While Bettany has already worked with Marvel quite a bit by providing the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. for Robert Downey Jr.’s  Tony Stark, he will now be getting some actual screen time as a superhero.

While Marvel still hasn’t officially confirmed that Bettany will be playing Vision, after the makeup tests and the above interview, I don’t think there will be much doubt left in anyone’s mind. Bettany himself has confirmed the role and did so on a Disney owned channel so I think it’s pretty safe to say that this is actually happening. It’ll be interesting to see what they do with the actor now that he’ll be actiing as an AI in one movie while still playing the voice for another.

The interview does give us a few fun tidbits on what we can expect though. First up he was asked about what Vision’s powers will be in the film as they have evolved over the years. So what can he do?

“Oh, I can do all sorts of things, but I’m not allowed to really talk about them and what we’re going to do because there might be a Marvel agent in the room that will actually wrestle me to the ground. And fire me!”

Well that wasn’t too helpful, I suspect at the very least  we’ll be seeing him in flight somewhere in the movie though I’m not sure if the film will include his ability to become intangible. He did hint that the powers will be different from what has been seen in the comics and that seems like a big one not to include here.

It will be interesting to see if Vision is created by Ultron in the film and if either of these two AI’s somehow are created off of J.A.R.V.I.S. as we know Hank Pym won’t be making him this time around. Also, will the introduction of Vision and the Scarlet Witch in the same film see their meeting slowly evolve into something more? In the comics the two do fall in love and end up married though that is years down the line from where this story would be taking place.

What are your thoughts on Vision being introduced here? Will he start off as a hero? A villain?

‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’ assembles in theaters on May 1, 2015.
