It looks as if one of Marvel’s favorite redheads may be recast in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’. As of right now, it looks as if Shailene Woodley (‘Divergent‘, ‘The Descendants’) isn’t set to return. While we’ve known for some time that her role as Mary Jane was cut from ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, it still seemed up in the air on what would be happening to the character. While she never seemed angry about being removed from the film, that was also before director Marc Webb was unsure if she was returning.
The interesting tidbit is that they still seem unsure. Right now she has “no idea” if she is still involved in the process. She does have a valid concern, though, as she stated in an interview with Total Film:
“I don’t even know that I would want to do two franchises at this point”. I don’t know anything, but seeing as how they picked up the next two Divergent films, I don’t know how I would keep my sanity with two big action films in one year,”

Woodley doesn’t seem too upset about a possible nonreturn but with the success of ‘Divergent’ there shouldn’t be any reason to be. On top of that, things like this happen in the film industry and while it can be annoying, there is a classy way to handle the news (as seen here) as opposed to the diva-esque burning bridges way that some actresses may have gone.
