This sunday marks the return of AMC’s smash hit ‘The Walking Dead’ and as we prepare to enter the second half of the fourth season it’s time to find out some more new details! Sure we’ve already had some spoilers of what to expect from the season going forward but how about some actual details straight from the executive producer’s mouth? That’s right, Greg Nicotero opens up with what is on the horizon for us!
Apparently one thing that he wants to stress is that a lot of what happened in the first half of the season actually leads into the second half. So much that “When we get deeper into the second half of the series, there will be things that people are going to recognize that we’ve set up in the first half of the season. You’ll be like, ‘Oh, I get why that happened now.’ In retrospect, as a whole, when you go back and you watch the whole season, you’re really going to see things like that.”
I like the sound of the overall arc being completely tied together as has been hinted here and wonder which initial setups he is referring to. While humanity has been our own worst ending thorugh the last couple of seasons it seems like we’re going to be delving even more into the fact that the entire world is now covered with zombies and he plans to do that in a fun way:
“One of the best ways to do that is to catch people off guard. This group of people wouldn’t be alive if they weren’t really good at taking care of themselves and surviving. But if you put them right in the middle of a walker horde, or you have them coming from areas where they didn’t expect or weren’t prepared for, it’s fun and it’s scary.”
He also addressed that Andrea’s story line annoyed audiences because she was left dangling and it really went on for too long. That’s one thing they don’t want to do going forward:
“It’s important that we always really service those characters and make sure that the characters aren’t left dangling, and that they don’t make stupid decisions. That really is important. The decisions that people make and how they turn around and impact our characters. Every decision that our characters make in this season does have some repercussion, whether it be a positive one or a negative one.”
With everyone split up from the finale of the first half of the season this is “really the first time since the first season that our characters are vulnerable. They’re out in the open” and that is going to open us up to all kinds of stories moving forward because as devastating as that was, now “Everybody’s scattered. Now we have the heartbreak.”
For those following casting news it’s not a big surprise but another story arc from the comics is going to be at least partially introduces as one of the groups “comes in contact with Abraham and Eugene and Rosita.” With the main group split up it’s hard to say how closely we’ll follow the comic but it should prove to be interesting with what we do get.
So folks what do you think about the upcoming season? Does Greg’s excitement and mention of lead in’s from the first half have you more excited? Share your thoughts before the show airs this Sunday!
