With all of the rumors, leaked production photos and videos, quotes from the cast about the end of the series, and other mysteries surrounding the final season of ‘Game of Thrones,’ it feels like one of the only certainties we had was that the show is attempting to produce one of the largest on-screen battles that film or television has ever done. And since the series has been known to have epic episodes featuring large battles during the penultimate episode of the season in the past few years, everyone just assumed that this massive battle would take place in episode 5 of the final season, right before everything got wrapped up in 6th and finale episode of the season. Now thanks to star Vladimir Furdík, who portrays the Night King in the series, we know that is not actually going to be the case.

According to Furdík at a fan convention in Hungary (a quote which was verified by source Mashable with a Hungarian speaker):

“In the third episode of the last season, there is a battle that the creators intended to be a historic moment in television…Almost the full episode will be about the battle, it will take about one hour.”

So there you have it, we will be seeing that giant battle in the THIRD episode of the season apparently, which means only two episodes of set-up before things come to a head, and then 3 episodes left in the season for whatever else the show has planned. Does this mean there might be smaller battles afterward? Or could the final three episodes be more about intrigue, backstabbing and court politics to decide who will ultimately rule and win the “Game of Thrones?”

Its very interesting to think about because this news means that most of the season will take place after the massive battle with the White Walkers, meaning they are NOT the end game of the series after all.

What are your thoughts here? What could the show have planned for the final 3 episodes? Feel free to share any theories you have in the comments below!
