While we’re still in the midst of Season Three of ‘American Horror Story’, Ryan Murphy and his cast and crew are already working on Season Four.
It was rumored earlier that the next season would be called ‘American Horror Story: Circus’ but that may have just been a hoax. I say hoax, myself. I mean… why would there ALREADY be a poster and trailer? It’s at least six months off and like I said, we’re still watching Season Four and trailer ads don’t start popping up until a month or so before the new season kicks off!
Series creator Ryan Murphy did speak a little about the new season, however, revealing that the show will be set in 1950.
“It’s set in 1950. If you look historically what happened in the year 1950, there’s some more clues in that year. It’s a period piece. We try and do the opposite of what we’ve done before. Jessica Lange has already started practicing her German accent so I’m very excited!”
Hmmm… 1950 was just a few years after the end of World War II, so could Lange be playing a former Nazi? Will the show actually take place partially overseas? Europe has a rich history with the supernatural, not to mention so many classic tales of horror, like ‘Dracula’ and ‘Frankenstein’ originated there.
Another possibility is that this marked the beginning of the Cold War, with America developing the Hydrogen Bomb after the Soviet Union perfected the Atomic Bomb. This led to Communist witch hunts in the US and a full on revolt in Germany. There’s Germany again. Then there’s the Korean War which kicked off that year.
The first ‘American Horror Story’, ‘Murder House’, focused on a family that moves into a haunted house. The second, ‘Asylum’ dealt with an insane asylum run by a possessed nun and included a mad scientist who performed horrific experiment AND a serial killer AND alien abductions. Currently, we’re thrilling to ‘Coven’ about a pack of witches in New Orleans. So far, there haven’t been any real political dealings, so this could be a fresh take.
What would you like to see in Season Four? Why type of supernatural menace do you think will play a part?
