The first trailer for ‘Jupiter Ascending‘ showed us that the Wachowski Siblings still have an amazing eye for science fiction and now we’ve got our first official image from the film! With it’s July 25th 2014 release date still a little way out we’re still in the early phases of seeing promotional material so expect quite a few more details to be showing up in the next few months!

This is the Wachowski’s first piece of action sci-fi work since ‘The Matrix’ and it looks to be on the same big scale. If it’s even half as good as that trilogy, we’ll all be lining up to see this one at the box office! Bonus points for being another science fiction film referencing Chicago! I can never get enough of my city being in a film’s spotlight!

So in this first image, we see Channing Tatum’s (‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation‘,’G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’) character, Caine, flying through the air with a gun in one hand and what looks like an energy shield on his other doing something action packed.

The film has fans of the Wachowski siblings eagerly awaiting for its release and what is hoped to be their triumphant return to the genre. If you need a refresher, here’s what ‘Jupiter Ascending’ is about:

From the streets of Chicago to the far-flung galaxies whirling through space, “Jupiter Ascending” tells the story of Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis), who was born under a night sky, with signs predicting she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Channing Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

Does this still have you more or less excited for seeing Channing Tatum in ‘Jupter Ascending’?

‘Jupiter Ascending’ starring Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, Doona Bae, Tuppence Middleton, and James D’Arcy hits theaters on July 25, 2014.
