Toys these days are insanely cooler than when I was a kid, especially action figures. Don’t get me wrong. I had some really cool toys, but in this day and age, not only do the toys actually look like the people they’re supposed to look like, they come with all the proper accessories and so many points of articulation that your toys are much more lifelike than ever. And you can pretty much get figures of anything from Marvel superheroes to WWE Superstars to the cast of ‘The Walking Dead’ or ‘Doctor Who’ and much more. Now, two more beloved franchises are being lined up to be cast in plastic for the kiddies to enjoy. Or, more likely, for their older brothers and sisters that watch these fan favorite TV shows.

Funko Toys has announced that they have acquired the toy licenses for HBO’s hit fantasy drama ‘Game of Thrones’ and Joss Whedon’s cult classic space western ‘Firefly’. The company is predominantly known for releasing bobblehead dolls and those adorable PoP! Vinyl figures, but they’ve decided to venture into the territory of 6-inch, articulated action figures in the New Year. And what better franchises to bring to life in their first go in the medium than these two?

The figures will be a part of Funko’s all-new Legacy line of action figures, which will be unveiled at the 2014 New York Toy Fair in February. Poe Ghostal notes that these toys will be “very much similar in style and accuracy and points of articulation as the Hasbro 6-inch ‘Star Wars’ Black Series,” and that’s wonderful news because those figures came out great.

Currently, the company hasn’t announced who will be included in the first wave of toys from either show, but one has to wonder how they’ll turn out. Since they’ve never released 6-inch figures before, the toys could be awesome or terrible. Seeing as this will be the first time that either show would be getting toys of this caliber, let’s just hope that they lean more towards awesome once we are able to lay eyes on them.

In addition to the Legacy line of action figures, they also announced that the crew of Serenity would also be joining Funko’s trademark PoP! line, which ‘Game of Thrones’ is already part of, along with newly announced ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘Arrested Development’ figures as well.

What do you think about Funko producing high-end action figures for ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Firefly’? Which characters do you hope to see in the first wave? Are you getting giggly about the fact that soon your Han Solo figure could interact with a Captain Malcolm Reynolds figure? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
