The latest casting rumor regarding the highly-anticipated Zack Snyder-directed ‘Batman Vs. Superman’ is that Jason Momoa is in negotiations for a role.  Momoa was previously rumored to be up for a part (possibly Drax) in Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ but reportedly a salary dispute resulted in him either walking away or the studio passing.  Momoa is mainly known for playing Khal Drogo in season one of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’.  He starred in the revamp of ‘Conan the Barbarian’ which flopped.  Has the actor realized that maybe he isn’t yet a huge star and that maybe passing on ‘Guardians’ was a mistake?Of course now one has to wonder who the burly actor will portray in the film?  Some have speculated that he may embody Superman’s comic book killer Doomsday.  Honestly, if they decide to use Doomsday, they need to go the route that Marvel used to create The Hulk.  Mark Ruffalo isn’t a bulky guy, but they still based the CGI Hulk on his performance.  Momoa’s muscular frame would thus be unnecessary.  However, Doomsday’s existence was even teased in the ‘Man of Steel‘ BluRay extras.

Another name thrown out is J’Onn J’onzz, the Martian Manhunter.  It had previously been reported that the alien hero would NOT be included, along with Aquaman, and that the ‘Justice League’ movie would only include Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Green Lantern.  But since this isn’t technically a ‘Justice League’ movie, could those earlier rumors have been disproved?

In the comics, J’Onn J’onzz was a founding member of the ‘Justice League’ along with Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern and The Flash.  (Batman and Superman were actually used sparingly and weren’t considered full-fledged members for some time.)  The Martian Manhunter had every power in the book, super strength, flight, phasing, shape changing, invisibility, heat vision, telepathy, super breath… I think that’s it.  In the current books, his history with the team isn’t quite clear, but he seems to have an antagonistic relationship with them.  How would movie-makers approach the character?

Then again, Lex Luthor has long been discussed as being in the next movie and it’s been stated that Warner Brothers is interested in taking a non-traditional approach.  Metallo is another villain that’s been rumored as appearing.

Do you think Jason Momoa is a solid choice for the film?  And who would you like to see him portray?
