Disney/Lucasfilm has released a new video that provides some insight into their new animated series ‘Star Wars Rebels’ which is set between the movies ‘Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’ and ‘Episode IV – A New Hope’.  On the show, we will see the Empire rise to power, eliminating the remaining Jedi Knights and the earliest stages of the Rebel Alliance’s formation.

The new clip gives a few teases regarding the new show, as well as some history of executive producer Greg Weisman, who previously worked on Disney’s ‘Gargoyles’ as well as ‘X-Men: Evolution’ and most recently ‘Young Justice’.  In addition to Weisman, a large percentage of the talent working on this show previously worked on the well-regarded ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ series.

Check out the video below:

If nothing else, Weisman exudes enthusiasm for the project and he has an incredible track record for producing high quality animated series with sophisticated story lines and deep character development.  And ‘The Clone Wars’ had a devoted following.

Unfortunately, there’s not much more revealed in terms of characters or more specific story lines, but there’s still quite a bit of time before the show debuts next fall.

Here is the officially released synopsis:

‘Star Wars Rebels’ continues the epic tradition of the legendary ‘Star Wars’ saga with all-new exciting, action-packed adventures. It is a dark time in the galaxy, as the evil Galactic Empire tightens its grip of power from world to world. As the series begins, Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruling with an iron fist and ruining the lives of its people. But there are a select few who are brave enough to stand up against the endless Stormtroopers and TIE fighters of the Empire: the clever and motley crew of the starship Ghost. Together, this ragtag group will face threatening new villains, have thrilling adventures, and become heroes.
