As SyFy will be helping us all ring in the New Year with its annual ‘Twilight Zone’ marathon that runs from December 31st and ends on the first of 2014, they also have so much more planned for us. The network has had much success with their original shows over the past few years and it looks like we’re going to be seeing more of this as well as a continuation of some of their more popular series.
Kicking off in January we’re getting seven new and returning shows to fill your nightly TV watching bliss!
First up we have the four returning shows:
On Monday January 13th we’re seeing a return of the hit shows ‘Lost Girl’ at 8PM and Being Human immediately after at 9PM.
In the forth season of ‘Lost Girl’ we’re going to be watching as the lines between the Dark and Light Fae end up blurring and Bo having to help sort things out. Of course what kind of state of mind is Bo going to be in after how the last season ended? What will she have learned while she was away and how will she act this time?
As a bonus, George Takei will be making a guest appearance on the show. This should get a great reaction from geeky fans the world over who know him from either their enjoyment of his work on ‘Star Trek’ or from everything he’s been doing online over the past few years to push geek culture.
Another series to begin their forth season is ‘Being Human’. Here, we stop in about four months after the third season’s finale. Each of our three main characters are in key moments in their lives that could change everything!
First up we see Aidan getting a visit by someone “unbelievable” who will force him to choose between the people he loves most. Will this be a life and death situation or will he almost be pushed to leave his friends, once again? Josh on the other hand has his own problems as we find him trapped in his wolf form while Nora and Aiden try to help save him. Finally we have Sally who is trapped and at the mercy of the witch from the end of Season 3 but now has magical powers of her own that could “change everything“.
Also making a return this year is the reality hit ‘Face Off’ which is entering it’s sixth season. The show features the latest in creativity from up and coming special effects gurus on January 14th at 9PM. This year we’re going to have 14 new makeup artists all competing to see who can pull off the most amazing characters for each of their challenges.
Finally rounding out the returning shows will be ‘Ghost Hunters’ on Wednesday January 22nd at 9PM. The show is is the longest-running unscripted series on Syfy and will follow the Ghost Hunters once again through collecting paranormal evidence, first up they’ll be visiting Gettysburg, Pennsylvania as the town commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Civil War’s Battle of Gettysburg.
Next up we have a look at the three new shows that I’m sure many of you have been waiting for:
First up is the two episode premiere of ‘Helix‘ at Friday January 10th at 10PM. We’ve been covering this show pretty extensively so far on the site but if you haven’t checked out the trailer or any of the posts, it’s by Ronald D. Moore (the man behind ‘Battlestar Galactica’) and “is an intense thriller about a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to the high-tech research facility, Arctic BioSystems, to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that may hold the key to mankind’s salvation or total annihilation.” Of the new shows this is the one I am most interested in as Moore did some amazing work on ‘Battlestar Galactica’ and I can’t wait to see what his new concept has to bring to the table.
Next up is the new reality series ‘Opposite Worlds’ which is set to premiere on January 21st at 10PM. It puts people in a competition where teams from two worlds, one in the past and one in a potential future, have to acomplish the same goal. Each of the worlds have their own advantages and disadvantages to finishing their assigned tasks.
Finally the last of the current set of new shows will be premiering at the end of the Monday Night Paranormal lineup on January 13th 13 10PM. Here’s a synopsis:
Laura Vandervoort (‘Smallville’, ‘Ted’) is Elena Michaels, the lone female werewolf in existence. Desperate to escape both a world she never wanted to be part of and the man who turned her into a werewolf, Elena has abandoned her Pack and taken refuge in a new city. There, she works as a photographer and hides her werewolf existence from her new boyfriend. When bodies start turning up in her Pack’s backyard, Elena finds herself back at Stonehaven, the werewolves’ ancestral domain.
I won’t lie, my wife has gotten me hooked on both ‘Lost Girl’ and ‘Being Human’ so those 2, as well as ‘Bitten‘ and newcomer ‘Helix‘ are on my must watch list this coming season. I don’t know how I’m going to have time to fit in all of this amazing television but I’m sure going to try.
