It looks like we’re going to be getting a new novel to television series adaptation in ‘Bitten’ which is based off of the ‘Women of the Otherworld’ novels by Kelley Armstrong. Novel adaptations can do great on the small screen as ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘True Blood’ have proven. Now Syfy is looking to get in on the action.

‘Bitten’ will star Laura Vandervoort (‘Smallville’) who will portray Elena Michaels, the only female werewolf in existence. We follow her trying to find a place in a new city after running from the person and pack who turned her from human to lycan. As she finds a place to belong and begins to live a semi-normal life with a human boyfriend – bodies start turning up.

With her world falling apart around her, she’ll do anything to protect the life that she’s been able to build for herself.

According to Chris Regena, the Senior VP of Programming at Syfy we have this to look forward to:

“Bitten is a fantastic blend of supernatural action, intense thrills, smoldering drama and a tortured love story that artfully adapts characters beloved for more than a decade by millions of readers around the world. It’s an excellent complement to our roster of programming and we cannot wait to share Elena, her pack and their stories with the Syfy audience.”

‘Bitten’ will be released in 2014 with a 13 episodes long order. It will also be showing on Bell Media’s Space network in Canada. This isn’t Syfy’s first foray into working with shows from Entertainment One. They’ve previously collaborated on ‘Haven‘. Not only that, ‘Bitten’ will be the third show that has come out from Canada as both ‘Continuum’ and ‘Lost Girl’ also started out up north. All three of these series have been long running and quite successful on the network.

I think Syfy has been bringing out a great set of paranormal shows so far. Also their Canadian imports have all been top notch. Are you excited to hear about ‘Bitten’ or are you wanting Syfy to get back into more spaced based dramas?

Synopsis:

Based on Kelley Armstrong’s New York Times best-selling novels, “Bitten” is a one-hour drama series that tells the story of a young woman torn between the normal, human life she thinks she desires and her werewolf destiny.

Elena, a young female reporter living in a modern city, deals with her secret life as a werewolf. As she lives in a very aspirational social world, she keeps her secret from her boyfriend while trying to distance herself from a larger pack of werewolves (from which she’s estranged and at emotional/moral odds). When a girl is killed by an “animal attack” in the city, it sends a threatening message to the pack itself and Elena reluctantly agrees to investigate the who/what/why etc. of the killing – uncovering long-held, disturbing secrets along the way. A fairly serialized, fantastical prime-time soap, a la Vampire Diaries.

‘Bitten’ stars Laura Vandervoort, Greg Bryk, Greyston Holt and Paul Greene. Daegan Fryklind and Grant Rosenberg will executive produce the series and serve as co-showrunners. The show is scheduled to be released in 2014
