Are you ready not only for a sequel to ‘The Conjuring‘ but a spin-off as well? It appears to be happening folks, and not only is it happening but the star of the new film will be Annabelle, the creepy doll from the beginning of the movie.
There aren’t a lot of details quite yet on the film but here is what we do know. The Director of Photography from ‘The Conjuring’, John R. Leonetti (‘The Butterfly Effect 2’) is moving behind the camera and will be taking over the director’s chair. With the film set to begin shooting in the Spring of 2014, one would imagine a script is well underway. Just don’t get your hopes up that writers of first film, the Hayes brothers, will be back for this one as they have other obligations at the moment. So who will be writing ‘Annabelle’? That’s still up in the air. Also up in the air is if this will at all involve paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. It’d be an easy way to bring back the stars Vera Farmiga (‘Bates Motel’) and Patrick Wilson (‘Insidious‘), even as cameos in order to tie the films together.
While the original doll that Annabelle was based off wasn’t nearly as creepy, it did have quite a bit of a back story that could be incorporated. In fact, the Warrens were contacted through a local church in order to investigate the doll itself. It has been apparently moved on its own, levitated objects, written messages, and even been given the blame for multiple deaths. Could this story follow the origin of the doll and be based off of everything that ended up being given responsibility for by The Warrens? I don’t know but I can’t wait to find out!
Speaking of the Hayes brothers’ obligations mentioned above, they are apparently feverishly working towards completing the script for ‘The Conjuring 2’! Hopefully they can finish it in time to work around James Wan’s (‘Insidious: Chapter 2‘) busy schedule as I’m sure everyone who had a chance to see the first movie would love for him to continue his work. He’ll be tied up for awhile though as he’s smack dab in the middle of filming ‘Fast & Furious 7’.
So tell me. Are you looking forward to a tale about Annabelle or is this just cashing in on a successful horror film?
