LeVar Burton Expects Geordi La Forge To Pop Up On 'Star Trek: Picard'
Paramount

LeVar Burton says that he expects to be invited to appear as Geordi La Forge on the upcoming CBS All Access series ‘Star Trek: Picard’ starring his old ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ captain Patrick Stewart.  Furthermore, Burton expects other cast members to return as well.  But not all at the same time.

“Each of us, I would say certainly, right?  It is unreasonable to assume that he doesn’t know those people anymore, or that he stopped talking to them. And if he did there’s good storytelling in why.  Are you gonna see all of us together, again, in a scene or episode? I don’t know.  There’s a lot of paper that needs to be papered, before we get there.”

‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ was the first project that expanded the lore of the franchise beyond the cast of the original show and movies.  It lasted for seven seasons in the 1980s-90s, three more seasons than the original series.  In addition to introducing Stewart’s Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Burton’s Geordi La Forge, the cast included Jonathan Frakes as Commander William Riker, Michael Dorn as Klingon chief of security Worf, Gates McFadden as Doctor Beverly Crusher, Marina Sirtis as Lieutenant Commander Deanna Troi, Brent Spiner as android Lieutenant Commander Data, and Wil Wheaton as Beverly’s son, child prodigy, Wesley Crusher.  Other notable cast members include Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar/Sela), Diana Muldaur (Doctor Katherine Pulaski), John de Lancie (Q), Whoopi Goldberg (Guinan), and Ashley Judd (Robin Lefler).

In addition to the long-running TV series, this cast also starred in the movies ‘Star Trek: Generations’ (1994), ‘Star Trek: First Contact’ (1996), ‘Star Trek: Insurrection’ (1998), and ‘Star Trek: Nemesis’ (2002).

As for what he thinks Laforge has been up to in the intervening years, Burton has pretty basic hopes:

“I’d settle with him having a date with somebody he didn’t invent on the Holodeck. If he could just have sex with a real person, I’d be so happy!”

Not much is known about ‘Picard’ at this time, but more may be revealed at San Diego Comic-Con.  The series is expected later this year on CBS All Access.
