You won’t have to wait too long before ‘Insidious Chapter 2’ hits the theaters as a press statement from Sony has announced that the film will be released on August 30, 2013 and that its stars, Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, will be returning for the sequel.

The first film told the story of Josh and Renai Lambert who worked on confronting the demons that possess their son Dalton after a mysterious accident in their attic leaves him comatose. The film was made on a budget of $1.5 million and grossed $97 million worldwide leading the film to be named the most profitable film of 2011.

While no plot details were given, the statement did reveal that filming for the sequel will begin in January 15th in Los Angeles.

James Wan will once again be at the helm for the sequel fresh off his stint as director for ‘The Conjuring’ and will be working off a screenplay by returning scribe Leigh Whannell. Also returning for the sequel are Lin Shaye and Ty Simpkins. i the return of Shaye, hears hoping the reports that the characters of Specs and Tucker will also be returning (with Whannell writing it’s almost certain, right?)!

“Blumhouse is committed to empowering filmmakers to tell their stories and we are excited to do that once again with the team from the first ‘Insidious’ including James and Leigh and the original cast,” said producer Jason Blum. “We also look forward to working with our partners on the first film- FilmDistrict, Alliance and Sony.”

An August release will pit ‘Insidious Chapter 2’ against the thriller film ‘Closed Circuit’ with Eric Bana and Rebecca Hall, the action drama ‘Getaway’ starring Ethan Hawke, Jon Voight and Selena Gomez, the horror film ‘Satanic’ starring Haley Bennett, and the concert film ‘One Direction Concert Movie.’

Blum has created a model of producing low-budget horror genre films and no doubt ‘Insidious Chapter 2’ fill follow the footsteps of the original and will out-gross its budget by the opening weekend.

Stay tuned for more details as we get them…
