They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky, and they’re coming back to the big screen! That crazy Addams Family is preparing for a comeback as MGM is reportedly planning on another reboot of the classic 1960s TV show based on the 1930 single-panel comics by Charles Addams.

After the original series only lasted for two seasons, ‘The Addams Family’ found a new (after)life in the form of several TV shows, two live-action movies from Paramount in the 90s starring Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, and Christina Ricci, and an award winning musical. The most recent attempt at a reboot came when Tim Burton showed interest in creating a stop-motion animated feature with Illumination, but he has since moved on, thus leaving room for this new incarnation to take shape.

MGM is in final negotiations with Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun of BermanBraun to produce the animated film featuring Morticia, Gomez, Uncle Fester, and the whole family. With Andrew Mittman and Kevin Miserocchi also being brought on as producers, Pamela Pettler has been tapped to pen the film. The writer has a good bit of experience with darker children’s stories as her previous work includes ‘Corpse Bride’, ‘9’, and ‘Monster House’.

As a weird kid growing up in the 90s, I was a big fan of the two features and the ABC animated series from 1992, so I’m glad to see that the bizarre and macabre family is mounting a return to freak out and entertain an entirely new generation of kids. In fact, for my own sense of nostalgia, here’s the opening of that crazy cartoon that I dug so much as a kid:
