The comic book version of Malekith the Accursed

A new villain rises in ‘Thor: The Dark World‘ forcing the Thunder God to team up with his duplicitous brother Loki in order to oppose him.  Malekith the Accursed, ruler of the Dark Elves of Asgard, leads his army against the heroic forces of the Norse pantheon.  At one point in the comics, Malekith possessed the legendary Casket of Ancient Winters, which appeared in the first ‘Thor’ movie.  Obviously, there’s no word on whether it will be employed in this film.  In addition to that, in the comics, he also has a magical horn that can summon a pack of dogs that can track his prey.

Once again, in the comics at least, Malekith is a powerful sorcerer, but like all elves, he is vulnerable to iron.

Malekith, in the film, will be portrayed by former ‘Doctor Who‘ actor, Christopher Eccleston.  So far, the character hasn’t been highlighted in most promotional material, with the emphasis being on fan-favorite Loki, who takes on a more… positive role?  (We’ll see.)  Not much has been revealed about the movie’s plot, but Malekith appears to pose such a threat that the estranged brother gods must combine their powers to oppose him.

But Marvel has just released a new clip, revealing Malekith awakening and speaking for the first time.  (In… Asgardian?  Norwegian?  Elvish?)

Check it out below:

He’s no Loki, but even so, this villain poses a pretty big threat.  What do you think?  Are you excited about Malekith the Accursed as the villain in ‘Thor: The Dark World’?  Or would you rather see a different villain?  (What about Tom Hiddleston’s choice of The Enchantress?)
