Deadline is reporting that Marvel is prepping a package which would include four drama series and a miniseries.  Allegedly, this package is being shopped around to various VOD or cable outlets, including Netflix, Amazon and WGN.  The project is very early in the planning stage, so there isn’t much to go on.  Purportedly, Marvel is developing an ‘Agent Carter‘ project, based on the one-shot included on the ‘Iron Man 3’ BluRay/DVD, but since this is so hush-hush, there’s no word on whether that is part of this proposal.  This is all following the success of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ on ABC.

So what Marvel concepts could be translated to TV?  Most likely, it would be something that doesn’t involve flashy super powers, so something like ‘Heroes For Hire’ or ‘Silver Sable’ could work.  Or even something that is somewhat subtle but isn’t likely to be featured in a big budget movie like ‘Cloak & Dagger’ could work.

60 episodes is a large investment, but with VOD blowing up with the return of ‘Arrested Development’ and original productions like ‘House of Cards’ and ‘Orange Is The New Black’ gaining critical acclaim and rabid fan followings, this could be the outlet of the future.

And as far as cable, AMC’s programs ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘The Walking Dead’ are breaking records with their ratings.  So it’s not ridiculous that other networks would want to get a slice of that action.  ‘Big Bang Theory’ reruns can’t pay all the bills.

I have my doubts, however.  Disney owns Marvel as well as ABC, which airs ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’  I don’t honestly think they would develop a package of shows for another outlet.  Financially, that just doesn’t make sense.  Also, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ had a huge debut, but hasn’t maintained its large ratings.  If they wanted to introduce some of their more colorful characters, they should probably start there.  The show could use it.

More news as it develops!  But in the meantime, what Marvel concepts do you think would make for a good TV series?
