In April of last year, we got our fist glimpse of Aaron Eckhart as the modern day version of Frankenstein’s monster in Stuart Beattie’s adaptation of ‘I, Frankenstein’. Since then, we’ve gotten a few promo posters and a release date change, but now we finally have the very first footage of the film in the form of a brand new trailer.

Thanks to Machinima, we can finally lay eyes on Adam Frankenstein as he engages in battle with an army of hellish demons in order to protect the human race from the unspeakable evil they hope to unleash on the world. From the looks of things, I get a ‘Van Helsing’ vibe mixed with ‘Underworld’, which isn’t really a surprise since the producers of the latter are attached to this project as well. You can form your own opinion of the trailer by checking it out below, followed by the synopsis for the film:

200 years after his shocking creation, Dr. Frankenstein’s creature, Adam, still walks the earth. But when he finds himself in the middle of a war over the fate of humanity, Adam discovers he holds the key that could destroy humankind.

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting some mixed signals from this trailer. First, Frankenstein says “I am like no other,” yet as the video goes on, there’s an entire legion of monsters exactly like him about to be unleashed by the forces of evil. Also, despite having a pretty awesome cast, this movie looks pretty goofy to me. While the CGI is pretty decent, it definitely doesn’t look as cool as other one man versus an army of supernatural beings movies out there. We’ll see how wrong or right I am after the New Year.

‘I, Frankenstein’ starring Aaron Eckhart, Bill Nighy, Yvonne Strahovski, Miranda Otto, and Jai Courtney comes to life on January 24, 2014.
