The new poster and tag line for RoboCop makes me wish it was 2014 already! When I first heard that they were rebooting RoboCop I did what everyone else does when they hear about a reboot. I cringed. As time moved on and casting has come out, my excitement has been rising.
Now? We have a poster with a tagline that anyone familiar with the franchise is going to love. It’s simple, right to the point, and right out of RoboCop’s mouth: “Your Move.”
This is another huge nod to the original film. Recently from the ‘RoboCop’ trailer that was released., you hear the Robocop say, “Dead or alive, you’re coming with me!” This is a classic line that any fan of the movie is going to happily remember.
I’m pretty sure these recent homages probably have to do with how much they’ve shown off of RoboCop’s new look. It’s had mixed reactions from people being happy for the change, to thinking one wasn’t needed, to even thinking it’s a rip off of the new Judge Dredd look.
When making a reboot you need some things to be the same or pay tribute to the original film. With all of the early news being how ‘RoboCop’ has changed from ComicCon, they need to start showing these tributes off. The fans need to get excited about what came from the original film to balance out what’s different in the new one.
Personally? I’m happily willing to give this one a shot. I may have been annoyed with some of the changes but I feel the trailer looks good and the casting is solid.
Are you still up in arms about the reboot or has the recent trailer helped sway you to wanting to give it a chance?
In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.
‘RoboCop’ stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, and Samuel L. Jackson. It is slated to open in theaters on February 7, 2014.
