We’re off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of healing. Huh?

It looks like CBS has a new show in development simply called ‘Dorothy’ that is going to be a mash up between ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and a medical drama. It’s a far fetched concept but then again, so is a story about a tornado taking a young girl into another world where she has to help dispose of a witch in order to save a kingdom and return home.

It won’t take place in Oz though. The characters will be in New York City and the series will be inspired by the characters and themes from ‘The Wizard Of Oz’, which should be an interesting twist to take place in the Big Apple (or will it be the Emerald Apple in this case?)

Emily Fox (‘Ghost Whisperer’) will be putting together the script and executive produce the show with Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman who were both behind ‘Elementary’, another of CBS’s shows based on fictional characters adapted to a modern world.

Honestly the concept itself sounded a little strange but with how much I ended up enjoying ‘Elementary’, I’m willing to give this one a shot. My question now is will everyone ‘Dorothy’ travels with on her journey to Oz work at whatever hospital she is at or end up being patients?

With the success of ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful‘, it is clear that L. Frank Baum’s classic still holds a lot of interest. Of course this new show doesn’t scratch the surface of how beloved this story is. Warner Brothers plans to release ‘Red Brick Road‘ and Syfy has a show titled ‘Warriors Of Oz’ in the works.

Are you still a fan of following the yellow brick road or are we slowly coming to an Oz themed saturation of the market? What’s your thoughts on a medical based drama of Oz? Sound off below!
