Team Bondi, the studio behind 2011’s hit open-world detective game ‘LA Noire’, may now be defunct, but game creator Brian McNamara has been hard at work developing a follow-up title called ‘Whore of the Orient’.

Coming from VideoGamer.com, a “trusted source” leaked a short gameplay video online to give gamers a glimpse of the new China setting and basic gameplay:

Along with several of the former members of the Team Bondi group, McNamara is once again looking to deliver an in-depth story-driven experience, though in a completely original setting. It’s immediately clear that the driving and shooting mechanics, along with several character animations, were taken straight from the team’s previous game.

‘Whore of the Orient’ takes place in Shanghai, China, in 1936, as players take on the role of an officer of the International Police Force during one of the most dangerous times the country has ever seen. Very little has been given in the way of story details, though much of the gameplay will revolve around solving cases and tracking down criminals in a similar manner to ‘LA Noire’.

Development on the project has been rocky, as tension between Rockstar and the former Team Bondi forced the two companies to part ways after the release of ‘LA Noire’. Team Bondi was officially closed shortly after, leaving McNamara and his team on a quest to find a new publisher to take on the project. WB Games was attached for some time, but the publisher dropped it last year. McNamara is still shopping around for a new publisher and development has since been suspended.

Brian McNamara has spoken about ‘Whore of the Orient’, frequently describing it as “one of the great untold stories of the 20th Century,” and as mentioned that it would be just as big as ‘LA Noire’.
