With how much of a reaction ‘Sharknado’ received, it was clear that SyFy was thinking of ordering a ‘Sharknado’ sequel and now that has officially happened. While not everyone loved Sharknado, no one can argue that it took the hearts and minds of B movie film lovers the world over. Sure it was only watched by 1.369 million people but the social media outpouring of love clearly pushed things into motion.

I mean Sharks in a Tornado? What’s not to love! (A lot apparently but we won’t go into that here.)

While ‘Enough Said’ was the tagline for the original film, it looks like not enough was said in it to contain in a single movie as it appears that in 2014 we’re going to see the flying sharks hit Manhattan (which is a popular spot for horror sequels as Mr. Voorhees proved in ‘Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan’.)

As most of the widespread knowledge of the film hit through social media,  the network will be holding a Twitter contest in order to name the movie! So if you want to enter make sure to tweet your submissions to @SyfyMovies using #Sharknado.

Just because we’re getting a second Sharknado doesn’t quite spell out that it’s a sequel. In today’s announcement, Thomas Vitale (SyFy’s EVP of Programming) had this to say:

Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm — on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun. We’ll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn’t want our fans to worry they wouldn’t get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year.

So we may in fact not be seeing a continuation of the film but more of an origin story of sorts. My bet is that it’s only a matter of time before we start hearing about more sequels that are of a crossover nature. However instead of a Jersey Shore ‘Sharknado’ down the line can we at least get ‘Sharknado’ vs Honey Boo Boo?
