Michael Caine and Jessica Chastain to star in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’

Christopher Nolan is amassing quite an impressive cast for his next project, ‘Interstellar.’ Not only has he already signed Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway to take on lead roles in the film, he’s now signed on Michael Caine and  Jessica Chastain to also star.

Chastain has gained a lot of attention in Hollywood.  The actress has been nominated twice for an Oscar (‘The Help’, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’) and has appeared in 11 movies since 2011 including the horror film ‘Mama’ produced by Guillermo del Toro. She will reteam with del Toro who will direct the actress in his new horror film ‘Crimson Peak’ which will also star Benedict Cumberbatch, Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam .

As for Caine, this will be the 6th project he has worked on with Nolan. Besides ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy where he played the role of confidant/butler Alfred to Christian Bale’s BruceWayne, Caine has also appeared in the Nolan directed films ‘Inception’ and ‘Prestige’.

Nolan has been very secretive about ‘Interstellar’, which really shouldn’t be surprising. The film is a co-production between Paramount and Warner Bros. and was originally a vehicle for Steven Spielberg back in 2006. Nolan’s brother, Jonah Nolan, wrote the original screenplay for Spielberg before the director dropped out of the project. It is this script that Christopher is using to merge his ideas into the film. What is known of the plot is that it is based on the scientific theories of Caltech physicist and relativity expect Kip S. Thorne and the use of wormholes in time travel.  The film is said to depict a “heroic interstellar voyage to the farthest boarders of our scientific understanding.”  Sounds like ‘Inception’ in space.

Considering the popularity of ‘Inception’ and the mind bending theories of the film, ‘Interstellar’ sounds like it will be another great sci-fi venture for the Nolan brothers.

Filming of ‘Interstellar ‘ is slated to begin in February 2014.
