With the action packed trailers from ‘Iron Man 3’ and most recently ‘Thor: The Dark World,’ the domestic trailer for ‘The Wolverine’ seems tame in comparison. But that’s the domestic version. It seems that the international trailer from Japan has a more fitting concept of how to market the film and has released this new trailer that gives more insight on the plot of the film.
‘The Wolverine’ is based on the comic book mini-series by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller and it looks like the screenwriters Christopher McQuarrie and Mark Bomback have done a very good job at adapting the story and even connecting it to the events of ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ as Logan heads off in desolation after the death of Jean Grey (Famke Janssen). Things seem to take quite a turn when, while in Japan, the mutant is offered a unique opportunity: to have his mutant abilities reversed and possibly become mortal. As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for.
Since a good portion of the movie was filmed in Japan, it’s not surprising that the Japanese trailer would contain more scenes that included their country.
International trailers have always seem to bring more to the plate than domestic ones, and this trailer for ‘The Wolverine’ really impressed me more. Maybe it’s because of the way it is presented? Or maybe because the title of the film in Japan is ‘Wolverine: Samurai’, and that just sounds so much cooler.
