Earlier this week, Ryan Reynolds came out in the press to say that while he’s not into more Green Lantern movies, he’s still very much on board with the Deadpool film that’s been in the works for years now following the ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ debacle. While he shared his take on why the film hasn’t been made yet, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have now emerged to give their two cents on the Merc with a Mouth’s movie.

In a recent interview with Collider, the ‘Zombieland’ duo declared that this script for ‘Deadpool’ is their favorite script that they’ve written. Supposedly full of fourth-wall breaking and trademark Wade Wilson-isms, the movie is definitely a hard R, which is why 20th Century Fox hasn’t really signed off on it yet. Regardless, even something as small as the test footage from about a year ago is enough to rally everyone involved behind this movie being made eventually.

On the topic of the test reel and the roadblocks that the film has encountered, Reese had this to say:

“We have a phenomenal director in Tim Miller, who did about a 3-minute test for Fox, and Ryan came in to do the mo-cap for it and the voice.  And it’s like the greatest three minutes ever.  I look at the three minutes and I’m like, ‘That’s the movie, and it has to get made.’  I think the biggest hurdle right now is convincing the-powers-that-be that it’s okay to have a hard-R rated movie within the Marvel Universe. I think there just has to be a tolerance for the outlier.  There has to be a tolerance for this one project that’s not like all the other Marvel projects.”

Like I said before, if ‘Kick-Ass 2’ with all of it’s hyper-violence and it’s very different approach to the superhero movie genre has an audience, then so does ‘Deadpool’. Fox just needs to realize this and then take the risk by putting it out. Fox is notorious for letting fans down (see ‘Arrested Development’ and ‘Firefly’), but putting out the Deadpool movie that we deserve is a really good way to get back onto the nice list.

How badly do you want to see ‘Deadpool’ starring Ryan Reynolds and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick? Are you desperate enough to seek it out online in order to get a taste of what it would be like for the Merc with a Mouth to get his own movie? If you are, come back here and share your findings in the comments.
