Disney XD’s ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ has certainly taken creative liberties with Spidey’s story. There have been quite a few changes from the comics, like the origins of villains like Sandman and Venom. But the biggest change might be the one that’s coming in next week’s episode. After introducing the likes of Electro, Doctor Octopus, Kraven the Hunter, the Green Goblin, and more, the last remaining animated Marvel series on television currently is bringing in one of the most popular comic book villains of all time: Carnage.

But as has come to be expected of this show targeted to a younger audience, the psychopathic symbiote will be undergoing a number of changes. Instead of possessing the homicidal sadist Cletus Kasady after sharing a jail cell with Eddie Brock and his symbiote, this version of the villain has been created by the Green Goblin after his Venom experiment didn’t work out the way he wanted. But here’s the kicker. The subject of this Carnage experiment is not someone you’d be expecting.

This is a pretty huge *SPOILER*, so you must proceed with caution if you don’t want to find out who is Carnage in ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’.

Okay, now that the warnings have been issued, I can get to this controversial news. To succeed where his son, Harry, could not as Venom, the Green Goblin captures Peter Parker and injects him with a new version of the symbiote, thus turning the friendly neighborhood web-slinger into the ferocious baddie. TV Line has an exclusive clip of the first appearance of Carnage in ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ over in their article if you’re curious as to how it happens. I’d include it here, but the video isn’t embeddable at this time.

The new Carnage won’t be as cool as this guy.

Now, I understand that they can’t really go so extreme as to include the sadistic serial killing version of the villain in this kids show, but they did it in the Spider-Man cartoon from the 90s. They just didn’t show Carnage killing anyone and strongly hinted at his heavy criminal record while having him practically decimate Spider-Man every time they meet. With Peter being Carnage now, we won’t get any awesome Spidey vs. Carnage action at all and that’s a pretty huge bummer. It’s like Disney XD is giving fans what they want in the worst possible way that they never wanted it.

Naturally, things could change and the symbiote could jump to another host later in the episode, but I find that to be unlikely. We’ll just have to wait and see how it plays out when the episode airs.
