The groundbreaking multi-platform series ‘Defiance’ isn’t set to premiere for another few weeks, but you don’t have to wait until then to see what the series will be like. Syfy has released the first 14 minutes of the pilot episode which you can watch below.

The clip pretty much sets the tone of the series and introduces us to Nolan and his charge Irisa who are escaping from a gang of Spirit Riders and are taken to safety in a town called Defiance (formally known as St. Louis).

Here’s the official synopsis of the series from Syfy:

In the year 2046, it’s a new Earth – with new rules. Over thirty years after various alien races arrived on Earth, the landscape is completely altered, terraformed nearly beyond recognition. To the town of Defiance, on what used to be St. Louis, comes the mysterious Nolan and his charge, Irisa. As they settle into town – overseen by the mayor, Amanda Rosewater and filled with residents like the powerful Rafe McCawley, enterprising lounge owner Kenya  and the ambitious, alien Tarrs – events begin to unfold that threaten the fragile peace this border town has fought for.

‘Defiance’ boasts an impressive sci-fi genre cast which includes Grant Bowler (‘True Blood’), Jamie Murray (‘Warehouse 13’), Julie Benz (‘V’, ‘Dexter’), and Tony Curran (‘Doctor Who’ ‘Underworld: Evolution’). Because this is the first several minutes of the first episode, we don’t get to see the rest of the actors beyond Bowler’s character, Nolan, and Irisa (played by Stephanie Leonidas), but it does a good job at setting the tone and giving us a glimpse of what to expect.

It will be interesting to see how the series will co-exist with the MMO game which is set to go live on April 2. After getting immersed in the game (and presumably getting to know some on the characters outside the confines of the series), ‘Defiance’ (the show ) will then begin airing on April 15.

Check out the preview of the pilot below and let us know if you plan on playing the game and watching the series:
