Earlier this month, Marvel began to tease the first huge crossover event of the Marvel NOW era titled ‘Age of Ultron’. Written by Brian Michael Bendis, the story finds the Marvel Universe in shambles after Ultron, one of the Avengers’ greatest foes of all time, succeeds in recreating the world in his image. Now, we’re getting a few more items to ponder over while we wait for the first issue to hit our local comic shops next month.

First, thanks to Comic Book Resources, we have a new promotional image drawn by Brandon Peterson featuring the dystopian roster of Avengers consisting of an eye-patch wearing Captain America, a one-eyed Cyclops, a cratered Thing, and a few other recognizable and unrecognizable heroes. Check out the image to the right for this limited series that will spread to such titles as ‘Superior Spider-Man’, ‘Fantastic Four’, ‘Uncanny Avengers’, and more.

Additionally, Marvel.com has released a trailer for the event that declares that ‘Age of Ultron’ isn’t a future story or one that takes place in an alternate reality. It’s all happening (Marvel) NOW! (By the way, they don’t actually say that line in the trailer, thankfully. I’m sure they knew how corny it would’ve sounded.) You can watch the trailer below, followed by the official synopsis of ‘Age of Ultron’:

Evil has triumphed over good and leading this new age is none other than Ultron, the deadly sentient robot created by founding Avenger Hank Pym who turned on his creator to achieve his twisted objective: the utter destruction of humanity. Now, it’s up to the few remaining heroes to band together and find any way to topple their new monarch. Can Wolverine, Emma Frost, Invisible Woman, Taskmaster, Beast, She-Hulk, Luke Cage, Spider-Man, and Moon Knight turn the tide? With the robotic revolution in full force, no fan can miss how Age of Ultron will ultimately change the Marvel Universe leaving no hero or villain unscathed!

Fans have been waiting a long time to see this storyline fit in the main Marvel continuity, and I don’t know about you, but I’m curious to see how Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne fit into this whole thing. Now that the Wasp is an active member of the Marvel Universe again, I’ve yet to see her interact with her ex-husband who fell apart after her death. Also, I wonder how Ultron will treat Janet, as the villain’s brain waves are highly skewed versions of Pym’s, right? If I’m not mistaken, Janet is featured in that image up there next to Cap, so I can’t image that she’s being held captive or anything. All our questions will be answered and speculation comes to an end once issue one of ‘Age of Ultron’ from Brian Michael Bendis and Bryan Hitch comes out on March 6, 2013.
