Calling all Rob Zombie fans! A new trailer for his upcoming horror film ‘The Lords of Salem’ has been released and posted here for your judgment. For those that are unfamiliar with the plot, here’s your breakdown:

Heidi, a blonde rock chick, DJs at the local radio station, and together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster) forms part of the ‘Big H Radio Team’.  A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, “a gift from the Lords”. She assumes it’s a rock band on a mission to spread their word.  As Heidi and Whitey play the Lords’ record, it starts to play backwards and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma. Later, Whitey plays the Lords’ record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with listeners.  The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon Heidi and her cohorts find that the gig is far from the rock spectacle they’re expecting; the original Lords of Salem are returning, and they’re out for BLOOD.

Although the trailer looks fairly different from the official synopsis, it still seems pretty intriguing.  Happy to see that Zombie is doing something original as opposed to his stint on the remake front (I’m looking at you ‘Halloween’ 1 & 2). As many filmmakers of this generation have found out the hard way, its always better to leave the original alone. Those films were entertaining but I find his early gritty, creepy and borderline psychotic work much more inciting and fun to watch. His films make me scratch my brain in wonder, are people really this insane or is this just the dark imaginings of a twisted genius?

Hopefully Zombie’s new film won’t let us down, looks like it could get a little cheesy and the whole I’m-having-Satan’s-Baby-Congratulate-Me routine has been done before (i.e. ‘Rosemary’s Baby’, ‘The Last Exorcism’, etc.). Plus I’m not really sure how I feel about Heidi, played by Sheri Moon Zombie, with white girl dreadlocks – hmmmm and why? We get it. Satan chose you for his baby mamma, no need to pull a Jack Black circa 1998 in ‘I STILL Know What You Did Last Summer’.   My guess is that we’ll be reunited with one or all of the gang from either  ‘House of 1,000 Corpses’, ‘Devils Rejects’ or any of the ‘Halloween’ installments. Zombie rarely misses out on an opportunity to put his pals up on the silver screen but lets face it, they’re horror icons and fans would probably hang themselves out of disappointment if he didn’t. I”m a little skeptical but hopefully there’s more than what meets the eye in terms of plot based on the footage provided in this trailer.

The film hits theaters April 19th, let us know if your waiting with breath that is baited for Zombie’s hopefully original spin on witchcraft and Satan’s little bundle of joy, in the comments section below.
