In an interview with CNBC today, Disney CEO Bob Iger made the announcement that the Mouse House is indeed working on stand-alone ‘Star Wars’ films that will not be part of the overall saga.

Back in November, it was announced that Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg were signed on to write on additional ‘Star Wars’ films. It was first assumed they would be working on ‘Star Wars VII’ that J.J. Abrams has now been attached to direct. Then it was rumored they were hired to write the screenplays for ‘Star Wars’ spin-off films. Today that rumor has been confirmed.

“There has been speculation about some stand-alone films that are in development,” Iger said in the interview. “I can confirm to you today that, in fact, we are working on a few stand-alone films. Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great ‘Star Wars’ characters that are not part of the overall saga. We still plan to make Episodes 7, 8, and 9, roughly over a six-year period of time, starting in 2015. There are going to be a few other films released in that time, too.”

No word yet on which characters would be involved in these films but it does lead some credence to the rumors about Yoda getting his own movie.
