About eight months ago, ABC officially passed on ‘AKA Jessica Jones’, a series that followed former superheroine Jewel who got out of the costumed crime-fighting gig and into the detective agency game, where she’s often sought after by clients with superhero connections. Based on Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos’ comic series ‘Alias’, the show had been in development for some time before resurfacing again around the time of the massive success of ‘The Avengers’. All hope was lost when the cord was cut. However, according to a new report, the show may not be as dead as we once thought.

In a recent interview with IGN about her new ABC crime drama ‘Red Widow’, writer Melissa Rosenberg revealed that although Marvel is focusing on Joss Whedon’s ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’, they’re still trying to find a new home for Mrs. Luke Cage. Here’s what she had to say about where the show may end up:

“Marvel is trying to set it up somewhere else. They’re looking at a lot of different possibilities. I don’t know if it’s an ABC show. It might be a cable show, really. The graphic novel is the first one that Marvel did that was meant to serve an adult audience. I toned it down a little bit for network, but it’s very, very easy to translate that into cable. Very easy. God I love that project, other than this one [‘Red Widow’], it’s one of my favorite things that I’ve ever written.”

The writer goes on to discuss what she loved about the project so much:

“The graphic novel was so phenomenal that I really just wanted to bring that to the screen. It’s so raw, and I love this character that is kind of a B-level superhero. She’s not in one world or another, she’s a borderline alcoholic. She’s just a mess, but she’s driven by a need to do something greater, you know? She’s just this delicious character. Fun, you know? I’d love to write that character more, and I hope I get the opportunity.”

I’m with Melissa on this one. ‘AKA Jessica Jones’ sounds like a lot of fun. Also, I think that it would be the perfect medium to introduce the world to lesser-known heroes like the Heroes for Hire, led by Ms. Jones’ hubby Luke Cage, Miss Marvel, and more. Hopefully Marvel can find a home for the show on a cable network soon because this show is definitely one that I’d like to see.
