doctor who christmas

It’s the season of being merry and exchanging presents, and the BBC always delivers at this time of year for ‘Doctor Who’ fans.  On Christmas Day, we’ll get a bittersweet gift indeed – this year’s Christmas Special episode, “Twice Upon a Time,” where we will say farewell to Peter Calapdi’s Twelfth Doctor and meet Thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whittaker.

The Doctors will get some help along the way, in the form of not only the First Doctor (portrayed by David Bradley) but also from outbound companion Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie), who is along for the ride as well.  Mackie, in a recent interview, talked about her experience in creating the final episode:

“There’s two Doctors – well three Doctors in it, technically, isn’t there? You’ve got Peter as the Twelfth Doctor who is struggling with not wanting to regenerate and he meets the First Doctor, played by David Bradley, who is absolutely amazing. The dynamic they have between the two of them is so funny … It’s amazing. Their dynamic together is absolutely hilarious. It’s a lovely episode … and it’s Christmas-y. And there’s snow, and there’s two TARDISes, and I’m in it! It’s very exciting.”

Enough of the idle chatter!  Here’s the clip itself:

The magical final chapter of the Twelfth Doctor’s (Peter Capaldi) journey sees the Time Lord team up with his former self, the first ever Doctor (David Bradley – Harry Potter, Game of Thrones) and a returning Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie), for one last adventure. Two Doctors stranded in an Arctic snowscape, refusing to face regeneration. Enchanted glass people, stealing their victims from frozen time. And a World War One captain destined to die on the battlefield, but taken from the trenches to play his part in the Doctor’s story. An uplifting new tale about the power of hope in humanity’s darkest hours, Twice Upon A Time marks the end of an era. But as the Doctor must face his past to decide his future, his journey is only just beginning.

The Doctor Who Christmas Special, “Twice Upon a Time,” will air on December 25, 2017, on BBC America.
