It’s no secret that CBS has been a bit, uh, secretive when it comes to details surrounding their newest “flagship” show, ‘Star Trek: Discovery.’ While several promotional images and videos have been released, little is known about the overall plot of the series, save for some vague allusions to a previously-unheard-of Klingon War. CBS took the information embargo one step further last week, forbidding any news outlets to run any reviews of the episodes until the day that they air.
Now, less than a week before the premiere of the episode, CBS has at least given us a small “synopsis” of the first episode, via TV Guide:
In the series premiere, new worlds and civilizations are explored by new members of the “Star Trek” universe.
Not exactly mind-shattering info contained there, to be sure, but CBS did also give us the title of the show: “The Vulcan Hello.” This, presumably, will go hand-in-hand with human character Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and her history of growing up in a Vulcan environment.
As fans who have been following the somewhat-troubled pre-production saga of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ already know, the show will have a 15-episode first season – a season that will follow a more serialized format than any of the other incarnations of televised ‘Trek,’ which have all been largely episodic.
In a recent interview, co-Executive Producer Heather Kadin spoke about the serialized nature of the new show:
“The idea of having a story that continues, to be able to follow these characters through fifteen episodes, not just a weekly mission, but their emotional journey, which I think you can even tell from the clip. It’s a really emotional show and I think we get to do that because of the way we’re telling the story over all of that time.”
For better or worse, fans don’t have long to wait now before seeing the premiere episode of the series!
‘Star Trek: Discovery’ will air on September 24 on CBS before moving exclusively to CBS’ streaming-only service, All Access.
