Back in June, BBC America had announced that they had acquired a new Canadian sci-fi series called ‘Orphan Black‘ to add to their Supernatural Saturday line up. Now it looks like viewers won’t have to wait too long before seeing it on the small screen as the network has announced that the series will premiere on Saturday, March 30, 2013.

Here’s a quick synopsis of the series:

After witnessing a woman’s suicide, Sarah assumes the strangers identity – who happens to look just like her. Expecting to solve all her problems by cleaning out the dead woman’s savings, Sarah is instead thrust headlong into a kaleidoscopic mystery as she realizes the dizzying truth – she and the dead woman are clones. As Sarah searches for answers, she discovers the chilling fact that there are more people like her out there – genetically identical individuals who were planted in unsuspecting birth parents and nurtured in completely different circumstances. With no idea who created the clones, she’ll need to discover the reason in a hurry as an assassin is killing them one by one.

The series stars Tatiana Maslany (‘Alphas,’ ‘World Without End,’ ‘Being Erica’) as Sarah, Maria Doyle Kennedy (‘The Tudors,’ ‘Dexter’), Dylan Bruce (‘As the World Turns,’ ‘The Bay’), Jordan Gavais (‘Unnatural History,’ ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation’) and Skyler Wexler (‘Alphas,’ ‘Warehouse 13,’ ‘Carrie’). It was created by Graeme Mason (‘Flashpoint,’ ‘Endgame,’) and John Fawcett (‘Lost Girl,’ ‘Secret Circle,’ ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’) who will also serve as executive producers.

‘Orphan Black’ sounds like a great twist on the “twin sister/look-a-like/’Prince and the Pauper’” story but with the use of clones. And while the plot device of an assassin/company hunting the unsuspecting protagonist has been used over and over again in the genre, as a conspiracy theory lover, it never gets old.

The 10 one hour episodes will be paired with episodes of ‘Doctor Who’ when the latter returns sometime in April. If you were watching the Christmas episode of ‘Doctor Who: The Snowmen’ on BBC America, you might have seen the teaser trailer for ‘Orphan Black.’ Just in case you missed it, we have it here for you below!
