The issue has finally arrived! Now that Charles Xavier’s first class of students are in the present Marvel Universe timeline, it was only a matter of time before they came face to face with Cyclops, Magneto, and the rest of the Extinction team, and this is the issue in which it happens.

Unlike the two issues that came before it, this issue of ‘All-New X-Men’ focuses on Scott Summers’ new team of X-Men. After having established a new base of operations in an abandoned Weapon X facility, Cyclops, Magneto, and Magik look to rescue their teammate and former Phoenix Force host, Emma Frost, as she’s being transferred by the authorities. The mission doesn’t go as planned as they discover the hard way that after you encounter the Phoenix, you’re not the same as before.

Generally, I’ve been enjoying this new series from Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen. While I’m not too fond of the Extinction team, I’m surprised to find that I quite enjoyed this issue. Throughout ‘AvX: Consequences,’  I wanted to see the repercussions of Scott’s actions while possessed by the Phoenix, but other than him phasing into the wrong side of the law, he didn’t really get his comeuppance. But here is when we really get to see some side effect that’ll hit him where it hurts. Not only him and those who were possessed by the destructive cosmic entity, but Magneto as well. What happens when four of the strongest mutants on the planet suddenly can’t control their powers as well as they used to? It’s worth finding out with this series.

Additionally, I’d like to see just how much Emma resents Scott after the events of ‘Avengers Vs. X-Men’ #11. They had a pretty heated argument in this issue, and a reconciliation of their love life doesn’t seem likely after a betrayal like that happened. Then again, you never know who’s going to shack up (or shack up again) in comics these days. I mean, Hawkeye and Spider-Woman? I never saw that one coming.

Business is about to pick up in this series and I’m very much looking forward to the next issue to see it unfold. Cyclops vs. Cyclops? I’m game.
