A few months back, it was announced that Geoff Johns and David Finch would be bringing the Justice League of America into the New 52 with a whole new line up featuring quite a diverse roster of heroes including Steve Trevor, Catwoman, Green Arrow, the new Arab-American Green Lantern known as Baz, Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, Katana, Stargirl, and Vibe. Just as the roster is diverse, so too is the country that they call their home base, the United States. So, in celebration of America and the JLA, DC has announced that they’ll be releasing 52 variant covers for this book, one for every state, plus Puerto Rico and Washington D.C.

In an interview with MTV Geek, DC co-publisher Dan DiDio had this to say about the upcoming new title:

“We’ve done a lot of great things with the ‘New 52’ and now we’re putting the focus back on Justice League, with the launch of ‘Justice League of America’. We want to make people realize that this is one of our key franchises, and we plan to build it out not just with the main ‘Justice League’ titles, but other books that tie into them as well.”

He goes on to talk about what inspired the 52 variant covers, which is not an incentive stunt for retailers as every store will have an equal opportunity to order each cover:

“Given the title of the comic and the year in which we’re announcing — an election year — we wanted to celebrate the country, as well as the various states.”

Not only do we have these collectible covers that will showcase each state, but there’s also some new spinoff titles for JLA members on the way as well. Vibe and Katana, two fan favorite characters, will be getting their own solo books. Vibe will be written by ‘Arrow’ creator Andrew Kreisberg and drawn by Pete Woods, whereas Katana will feature the talents of ‘Catwoman’ writer Ann Nocenti and artist Alex Sanchez.

‘Justice League of America’, ‘Vibe’, and ‘Katana’ all hit the shelves of your local comic shops in February.
