Over the weekend at Fan Expo in Toronto, DC announced that they will be launching a new Justice League book featuring the team of writer Geoff Johns and illustrator David Finch to act as a companion piece to ‘Justice League’. This all-new book titled ‘Justice League of America’ is speculated to be the team that Steve Trevor mentions to Green Arrow in ‘Justice League’ #8 and it features a few very unlikely Justice Leaguers.

According to Examiner, this team’s roster will include Steve Trevor, Catwoman, Green Arrow, the new Arab-American Green Lantern known as Baz, Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, Katana, Stargirl, and Vibe. To be honest with you, I’ve never even heard of the last three names on that list. In fact, when I first saw the picture above, I thought American Dream jumped ship from Marvel and joined the Justice League.

Johns knows that there are people out there like me who don’t really see a lot of A-list here, so he has this to say about his new team:

“They’re underdogs who have everything to prove and something to lose. They’re a team of unlikely heroes who will help one another discover they’re as A-List as anybody — yes, even Vibe. Though getting there won’t be easy. Why they’re formed, why each member joins, what they’re after and who the society of villains is they’re trying to take apart will all be clear in the first issue when it hits early 2013. David and I are really focused on delving deep into what it’s like to not be a member of the big seven and why, sometimes, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.”

Who doesn’t like a good underdog story, right? Well, dog and cat in this case with Catwoman on the team.

It’s interesting to see DC’s flagship team gain more facets now after Marvel has been doing the same with The Avengers for a while now. And with some heavy hitters on this title both creatively and on it’s pages, we’re sure to get something interesting.
