Fans of Spider-Man an rejoice as Peter Parker’s other love interest, Mary Jane Watson, will indeed be appearing in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2.’ It’s being reported that Sony has already chosen the actress they would like to play Mary Jane and it’s none other than ‘The Descendant’s’ Shailene Woodley.

Although Woodley has been starring in the ABC Family series ‘The Secret Life of the American Teenager,’ it was her breakout role as the daughter of George Clooney’s character in ‘The Descendants’ that made Hollywood stand up and notice her. Variety is reporting that the studio is in “early talks” with Woodley so at this point, nothing is set in stone and there’s still a chance that the role could go to someone else. With ‘The Secret Life of the American Teenager’ in its final season, this gig would be a great project for Woodley to do.

M.J. isn’t the only recognizable Spidery character to grace the sequel as the filmmakers are also looking for an actor to play Parker’s bestie-turned- nemesis Harry Osborn (who, if you recall, was played by James Franco in the Raimi version). But for those hoping to see The Green Goblin, the wait may just have to last a little while longer as rumor has it that one of the villains who will be after Spider-Man may be Electro (a.k.a. Max Dillion). Fans may recall that his presence was hinted at in the post-credits sequence of the first film.

With Marc Webb returning to direct and Andrew Garfield already set to grace the Spidey leotard once again (and by all accounts formal word about Emma Stone’s return should come soon), as well as genre giants Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci working to polish up a new version of the script with Jeff Pinkner (‘Fringe’), this sequel may just be the one of the few where it is better than the original.

Production is set to begin early 2013 with the film slated for release on May 2, 2014.

So what do you think of Woodley as M.J.?
