After months of referring to J.J. Abrams’ sequel to ‘Star Trek’ as ‘Star Trek 2,’ Star Trek 12,’ the untitled ‘Star Trek’ sequel, it seems as there may finally be a title for the film. While not yet official, TrekMovie is reporting that sources close to the movie have confirmed that the previous untitled sequel will be called ‘Star Trek into Darkness.’
One thing noticeable to quite a few people about the title is the absence of a colon which has been prevalent in the past ‘Star Trek’ feature films. Historically, ‘Star Trek’ films have not done well overseas in non-English speaking markets, so Paramount has been testing a number of title possibilities to find something that would work worldwide. While the title gives no indication as to what the film will be about, it does coincide what Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine have said about the movie being bolder and having to deal with some serious issues.
The promotional team for ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ is still working out how to officially unveil the new title and some think it will some soon in the form of a teaser poster or image.
Now that a title has been released, here’s hoping that a teaser will soon follow and Trekkers will soon find out the identity of the mysterious villain that Benedict Cumberbatch is playing.
So what do you think of the title ‘Star Trek into Darkness?’
