J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Trek 2’ is in post-production right now so we haven’t heard much about the film since they were shooting. Actually, I don’t remember hearing too much about it when it was shooting due to the highly secretive nature of their shoots. Anyway, the captain of the Enterprise, Chris Pine, is currently shooting a new movie in New York, and Total Film (via Collider) caught up with him to get some words about the upcoming sequel.

To begin with, Pine says that they’re “not making Batman”, so it’s safe to assume that we’re not getting a dark and serious movie like Christopher Nolan’s Caped Crusader trilogy. He goes on to say this:

“There’s comedy, which I think J.J. does a great job of, but, like the first one, there’s some serious issues being dealt with. And I’d say the threat is even greater in this one.

The force [the Enterprise crew] are met with is much more frightening. It’s relentlessly action-packed and in terms of character development it goes places you’d never expect. The arc is huge for all the characters. It’s a really big story – I can’t hype it enough!”

I’m glad to hear that Abrams stuck with his formula that worked the first time where he balanced comedy and action. If it got too dark, it would be something completely different.

Starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve, and Benedict Cumberbatch, ‘Star Trek 2’ opens May 17th, 2013.
